Background & Approach

Background

I'm a certified Martha Beck Life Coach, personally selected and trained by Martha Beck, author, life coach and monthly columnist for "O, The Oprah Magazine"; and Meadow DeVor and Brooke Castillo, Master Life Coaches.

Prior to life coaching, I worked for 13 years in various marketing leadership roles for both large and small corporations, both functional and dysfunctional. My background in marketing, business, leading teams and organizational dynamics allows me to understand the working environments you face. I was known for my ability to create relationships and seek common ground even in the most difficult situations.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Communications degree from the University of Washington, where I specialized in interpersonal communication, small group dynamics, public speaking and organizational communication.

I was born, raised and currently live in Seattle, Washington with my partner Chona, dog Scruffy and cat Trixie.

Things I love: Spending time with family, laughing at stupid stuff (or smart stuff), playing with our dog Scruffy, reading books ranging from the trashy to the sublime, sunny vacations, goofing off, goofing off with Chona, email, good times with friends, golfing, nachos, silly accents, blueberries, walking Alki beach, working out with my iPod on really loud, listening to all kinds of music, embracing my inner dorkiness, and knowing that I can be spiritual and a smartass in the same breath.

Just to keep life interesting, I'm currently trying out Tai Chi and Improv comedy. I'll let you know if I'll be adding those to my list of loves.

Coaching Approach

At the heart of my practice is the Martha Beck coaching philosophy:

"A Martha Beck Coach is trained to help their clients remove any outdated belief systems or external social illusions in order to access the truth of who they are. They help teach their clients to access their own wisdom—not by giving them advice or telling them what do—but by giving them the tools to remove the internal causes of their confusion or suffering. While most coaching methodologies help clients manage the symptoms of disconnection, Martha Beck Coaches are trained to identify and show the client how to change the cause, in other words, how to connect to the essence of who they really are and to live their lives in accordance with that essence."

In a nutshell my belief is that you know your answers, my job is to help you clear the mental clutter so you can access the truth inside you.

In addition to coaching techniques taught by Martha Beck, I use "The Work" of Byron Katie whose simple-yet-profound four questions and turnarounds produce amazing shifts and immediate results. Other influences include Ekhart Tolle, Marianne Williamson, Esther and Jerry Hicks, and good old common sense.
